Could an entry be missing on IGI??? HELP!!!
« on: Wednesday 12 September 07 20:11 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Is it possible that a baptism entry has been missed when transcribing the IGI??

I am trying to locate the baptism of my GGGG grandfather Samuel Porritt who was born c1809 in Burniston/Scalby.

I believe (99% sure) his parents were Thomas Porritt and Jane Noble who married in Hackness 13/7/1802.  I have found siblings of Samuel on the IGI as follows:

Isaac bapt 29/7/1803 Hackness
Robert bapt 1/12/1805 Scalby
Thomas bapt 17/1/1808 Scalby
Thomasine bapt 31/3/1811 Scalby
John bapt 9/6/1813 Danby In Cleveland
Mary Jane bapt 12/9/1815 Danby In Cleveland
Edward bapt 11/1/1815 Danby In Cleveland
Betsey bapt 29/5/1820 Castleton

My GGGG grandfather named his third son Noble after mother Jane's maiden name and 1851 census states his place of birth as Burniston. This is also the case for his mother Jane and sister Thomasine.

I have his death certificate 14/4/1861 aged 51 so year of his birth has to be 1809/1810.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Which church would the baptism's in Scalby have been at??

Where would i find the original parish records??

This is a real "brick wall" for me and I have spent over 18 months searching. Please help!!!!!

Helen

I checked the Scalby PRs this morning and only found the 3 baptisms you mentioned: Robert ,Thomas and Thomasin. I checked between 1804 and 1816.

Unfortunately, the EY RO doesn't have Burniston PRs on fiche - I think they might come under North Yorks, although I did notice that there were some entries in the Scalby PRs which gave Burniston as the abode.

HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.
