MARIA MEDLOCK
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 15:54 BST (UK) »
I'm getting in a muddle with the Medlock/ Madlock family.myGt Grandmother, Maria Medlock was born in Great Gransden 1841. I believe her parents to be Thomas and Mary Medlock . There seems to be a huge number of Medlocks in that area and I need some help unravelling them. Any help gratefully received!

Hi Yvonne

This is the Maria Medlock, dau of Thomas and Mary (Arthur) unnamed in 1841 aged 6 weeks, who wasn't baptised until 20 Feb 1848? As opposed to the Maria dau of Thomas and Hannah (Parnwell) who was 8 in 1851, 21 in 1861 and was baptised in 1844!

I have her as marrying William Crofts on 11 Nov 1859, but given the hiatus between the two Marias I can't say I'm 100% certain. Doesn't help that both father's were Thomas, and both were ag labs, so the marriage cert doesn't help a lot. Must do a bit more work on the Parnwell daughter.

While I'm doing that just confirm your email address to me in a Personal Message and I'll send you a report showing what I think the position is, including all censuses!

Kind regards

David

Looking again at the two Marias I remember my logic in placing the one who married William Crofts as being the daughter of Thomas and Mary, rather than of Thomas and Hannah.

In 1861 Maria Medlock, daughter, was still living with Thomas & Hannah in Gt Gransden, albeit her age at 21 was wrong.  So that eliminates her, as in 1861 the other Maria was already married to William with a 3 month old daughter
