Whiston Parish - LUCK Family
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 19:02 BST (UK) »
I have recently found that my ancestor Richard Luck, who came to Quebec with the 53rd Regiment during the American Revolution came from the parish of Whiston on the County of Northampton. I would be interested if there in the records anyone has for this parish if baptisms are published his baptism or possible parents. I figure that he was born before 1759 as he enlisted in 1775 so I assume he was at least 16 years old.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for replying I'll keep that information in case something matches up. I don't know much yet, as I said just found out where in England he was from, based on a land petetion in Montreal Canada.

Hello,  a Richard Luck was baptised on the 4th of May 1751 in Great Billing, the son of Richard and Sarah Luck.
Great Billing is not far from Whiston and it would be reasonable to assume that Richard was in that Parish when he enlisted.

Regards, John

Thanks for the baptism, this one sounds real promissing. I'm hoping I can find some record of his age over here and maybe that will help confirm it. I will definitely keep this piece of information.

Thanks for the offer, but that is going to be hard. Unfortunately all the records I have come across for him don't give an age and during the time he was in Montreal there wasn't a true census that would give an age.

All that I know is that he married in 1781 to Suzanne McGee in Montreal (only their names no age or parents). The following children were born to them: Charles, Samuel; Suzanne, Thomas (possibly); William Edward; Robert, and Richard. In 1801 he filed a petition for land that is where I got the information on him and time served but no age. I know that he is dead by January 1816 as his wife in a notary act is listed as widow, but I cannot find a burial for him in any of the churchs in Montreal.

If I find anything I will let you know.

I appreciate the help.
