can this photo be repaired?
« on: Tuesday 18 September 07 12:18 BST (UK) »
I have a photo of my dad and his brother.
It is very dark, can it be lightened up?

Please  :)

Thank you.

Hi Pettsy

You will get better results if you can rescan this at 300-600 dpi.
Meanwhile here is an effort from me.

Hi Irene,

That is great, thank you.

Unfortunately my scanner has broken, so I need to buy a new one.  :-\

Can you recommend a good one, I could put it on my Christmas list  ;D

Thank you.

Regards

Try the Epson Perfection V100 Photo if you're in the market for a new scanner...it scans up to 4800 dpi and I paid about US$100 for it last spring.

Don't get one of those all-in-one scanner-printer combinations...they're fine for scanning printed documents but they only go up to maybe 150 dpi maximum and are no good for photos.

Cheers,

I have an all in one printer and it scans up to 7200 dpi. It is a HP Photosmart 2575. Don't know the cost as it came in a package with the puter

Irene

PS Just looked at the manuel and it says it can go up to 19,200 dpi   :o :o
Now what would need to be scanned that high !!!!!!

Just had to try scanning at 19,200 dpi to see what the result was. After 10 mins. of it still scanning ( It goes sooo slow) I gave up.
Don't think I will be using it much  :) :) ;D

The HP Photosmart is about US$250, I think. It's an exception to the all-in-ones as it's specifically for photos...that would be fine, but most are just for general office-type stuff.

19,200 dpi would probably be enough to pick up skin pores and eyelashes... ;D

Cheers,
C
