Hi guys,

I have both - and I find both useful.  Some points I would like to make though:

1) BVRI2 does NOT ALWAYS contain the parents names of the bride and groom - only if it was post 1837 and it was transcribed from the parish registers.

2) BVRI2 does not cover all of Sussex for marraiges.

3) Sussex Marriage Index is compiled from a number of sources, some printed.  http://www.sfhg.org.uk/smi/smiinfo.html  gives you more information. It sometimes contains the parish of origin of the couple.  There are entries for licences and these may sometimes give an occupation.

4) You always get the names, place and date for each entry in the index.

Hope that helps you.

Nell

Hi Lee,
I'm a BIG fan of the Sussex Marriage Index on CD.
Not only does it give you the information that Nell spoke about, but you can ask for the names to come up in date order, parish order, forename, surname, spouse's forename or surname, plus it will give you a distribution map of the surname you are looking at.
An invaluable aid, not only to me but to other's when I do look-ups.  I just LOVE playing with it :D
