Don't assume it's a girl because the child is wearing a skirt. Fashion were very different in those days. They tended to be dressed all the same.

Agree 100%. Don't be fooled by the style of clothing. I have seen photo's of my male ancestors in this type of "dress" when they were infants. It looks like a boy to me.

PS: The title of this posting, "Date & Sex Please", had me a bit worried at first. I thought I had logged onto one of those X-rated Lonely Hearts websites!

This is a photo of my grandma holding my Dad in 1912.  Dad was born October 1911, so not sure how old he was at time of photo.  My Auntie standing in front was five.  Both as you see were wearing dresses.  To my mind, Dad looks like a little girl.

Thanks everyone - sorry for the delay in replying but I've been away from the computer for a couple of days.

Super  restorations - very much appreciated. The person I thought was the subject was my grandfather, born 1888. The datings would seem to put this in doubt - to me it looks 1890s, but I'm no expert. I've a real dearth of photos for my family in their early years, so I've nothing to compare it with.
Sorry if the post title was provocative - but I've never had so many Chatters read my messages before, so it did work!
