« on: Friday 21 September 07 19:34 BST (UK) »
Hi, Can anyone help???? I am looking for any information on Mary Ann Jones born 1859 in Llandawke, she married William Henry Barker in Oswestry 1884 on the marriage certificate her father was called Richard and he was an engine driver. M/A Jones died in1892 in Lancaster. I can`t find any trace of her on the census or a birth on the B.M.D.

Gave it a try. In 1861 census -

Mary Jones age 2.
Father Richard Mother Jane

Interestingly enough above that record is a Mary Anne Jones age 2
Father Richard Mother Elizabeth

However they were born in Llandilo Fawr, Carmarthenshire

Sorry :'(

Hi Peter

Welcome to Rootschat!  :)

I wonder how you know where she was born (and when) if you can't find any trace of her?

Can you let us know what you do have - JONES can be a bit tricky to trace!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Peter

I am guessing your info came from the 1891 census (Mary's place of birth was mis-transcribed - always try to look at the original!)

Hi Arranroots
First of all, many thanks for your help. I have been doing some checking on the family you found, The only one i can find in the 1871 census is Elizabeth (wid) living at a place called Trefarclawdd with her sons John Henry(13) Richard(10) and William(3). On Mary Ann's marriage certificate it doesn't say deceased for her father but it say's in the presence of Richard Jones (could be her brother?) I would be delighted if you would Carry on helping me
Regards Peter

Hi

Just to chip in - your 'Trefarclawdd' may well have been the enumerator's interpretation of Tref-y-clawdd, of which Knighton is the English version.
