1891 census lookup please - Willoughby
« on: Sunday 19 December 04 23:20 GMT (UK) »
My Grandfather, Eli Charles Willoughby was born in Marlborough, Wilts in 1873. In 1881 he was still living in Marlborough. He got married in Pontypridd in 1895 and in 1901 he was still living in Pontypridd.
Would any kind person lookup the 1891 census to see if he was living in Pontypridd at that time Please.

No likely suspects in Wales, however:

There is a C Willoughby Lodger, aged 18 in the 1891 census of Swindon.
occupation Machinist, birthplace Marlboro, Wilts.

RG12 / 1585 fol 40 p 30 sch
Rose Cottage, Highworth, Swindon.

(modified to show correct piece number 1585 - originally put 1858 sorry!)

Hi to SS,
You have my Grandfather spot on. In fact you've killed two birds with one stone, so to speak. My late father  told me about 50 years ago that at one point he did work in Swindon. This now confirms it. Could I ask you another favour please, could you find out who the other occupants were as I'm trying to connect the Marlborough Willoughby's to the Highworth Willoughby's. Seeing him living in Rose Cottage, HIGHWORTH, they might be related?
Many thanks indeed

Just a quick reply... As far as I can recall, there were no other Willoughby's at that address when I looked at the census page yesterday. Will have another look later.

Hi to SS,
Many thanks for your time and effort. Looks like the Cottage is bigger than I first thought.
