John WOOD marriage Wharram Le Street 1817
« on: Sunday 23 September 07 16:28 BST (UK) »
On the IGI I find a possible  marriage record of my ancestor John WOOD with Ann RULOCH in Wharram le Street on 21/7/1817.

The problem is that RULOCH seems a very improbable name and I have some (albeit tenuous) evidence for his wife's maiden name being RUSSEL(L).

I was wondering if it were possible that the IGI record has been mis-read and that Russell is actually the name written down in the Parish Records, not Ruloch.

On IGI I see the entry comes from the Bishop's transcripts for Wharram le Street for 1631 to 1836 and it refers to a microfilm of the manuscript in the Borthwick Institute in York.

How can I check this? Is it possible to see the manuscript in York ( I'm too far away myself though) or can I order films ( how ? where? how do you view them?)

thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

In the US, IGI photocopies of the microfilm can be ordered from LDS.   What I don't know is if they accept international orders.

Alternatively, films can be ordered and viewed at their libraries.

For family history centers near you, see <a href="http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp">International Family History Center Locations</a>.
