Beecham's Spalding
« on: Monday 24 September 07 08:12 BST (UK) »
Just found a extract from local newspaper on a Lincs site. (Golden Wedding, Mr & Mrs Robert Beecham of Albion Street, married on 31st March 1850 at Pinchbeck.) My Gt Grandfather on mother's side was a Robert Beecham also and I was wondering if these were his parents or related in any way. Can anyone find them with children on a census from 1851 on wards please. In the article it say's a friend writing of them said, They both stand for sturdy examples of honest straightforward English characters - independent, fearless and strong, rough, mayhap, but that is better than smooth deceit.

Hello Keith

Not sure why nothing is ever quite straightforward! but the best possibility I can find was not married in 1851 census (or hadn't said he was) but in 1861 he is married to a Mary. There is a Marriage in the Mar Qtr 1851 for a Robert Beecham (FreeBDM) (in the right district) and there are 2 possible spouses called Mary - Mary Woods and Mary Ann Love. Mary Woods looks a distinct possibility if this is the family, because Robert was listed as a visitor with the Wood family in 1851 Census.

It seems the census was taken on 30 March 1851, so it represented their last night of unwedded bliss ;)
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

John Woods 49 Cottager occupying 2 acres AgLab, Surfleet

The AgLab has been scratched in by the census registrar ... compare with the top entry on the page (also a cottager).

Thanks Geoff - I hadn't checked, rather amazing to find it in Mar Qtr when 31 Mar - must have gone straight to the registrar!

I was just checking ages - seemed a bit variable & notice I missed 1871 - Robert was listed as 44 - I will edit it

I thought it said cottager & decided that couldn't be - better you go and check the rest  8) My eyesight is about the same level as my memory - bad!
