Sophia White , Warwickshire.

Trying to find information about a Sophia White born 1821/1822 in Warwick, Warwickshire.
Father is James White and  Mother details not known ??

If anyone can help me find any info regarding Sophia's parents and any siblings that would be much appriciated.

Sophia arrived in Van Diemans Land and married William Bent in 1837. Sophia was only 16 when they married in Hobart Town, Tasmania.

William Bent born Birmingham 1809/1811 may have came out on the same ship as Sophia but I am unable to find if they did.

Any help regarding the families in the UK would be much appreciated.

Couldn't find Sophia in Warwick but did find a Sophia White in Nuneaton(abt.15mls. from Warwick) b.1821/Fa.James/Ma.Sarah who were married in Nuneaton on 4/11/1822.Mother's maiden name Bonner.
Could this be her?

Marriage certs. were not introduced until 1837 any marriages prior to this will only give Parish & witnesses.
Found these:
James White Ch.14/5/1813/Nuneaton (as an adult)/Fa.John/Ma.Frances
As this is post 1812 the entry will give father's address & occupation.
There aren't any siblings for Sophia in Nuneaton but did find these 2 in St.Phillip's B'ham:
Henry Jackson White Ch.7/5/1824/Fa.James/Ma.Sarah
James White Ch.25/4/1826/Fa.James/Ma.Sarah
I did find a marriage for a James White=Sarah Jackson in B'ham in 1823 who are probably the parents of these 2.
Again the entries will give father's address & occupation.
As this is a common name this info. is for guidance only.Also have these:
William Bent Ch.13/12/1812/Nuneaton/Ma.Elizabeth
Sarah Bent Ch.17/12/1815/Nuneaton/Ma.Elizabeth
As Sophia married at 16 I assume the whole family emigrated.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the info. I am trying to see how it all fits together and a family member is going to have a look at the English Censes for the areas to see if we can check that way as well.
It seems a long process to get anything but with the help yuo have given me it is a way to start.

The earliest English census you can access is 1841,as they had already emigrated by then I doubt it will be of any use.Sorry to be a wet blanket.

It's a long time since you posted your query so I wonder if you have managed to make any progress?   I found your message while I was looking at posts including the surname BONNER in the hope of breaking down some of my brick walls.

I think the Sarah BONNER who married James WHITE on 4th November 1822 in Nuneaton might be the oldest sister of my 2 x great grandmother.   I only found out about Sarah a few days ago because she wasn't baptised in Nuneaton like the other children.

I've had no success in finding Sarah & James WHITE in the 1841 census or any deaths for them so I have been wondering if they could have emigrated.

If you think it's the right family I can fill you in on what I know.

Thank you for your email. The family is the correct one and James was sent to Tasmania as a convict in1829 and he applied to bring his family out and his wife Sarah White and Sophia 13, Ellen 7, Joseph 6,Sarah 5 came out .They  had a further 5 children. That is all I have which was given to me by a family member. It would be great to get what you have and I do have info which I will have to dig up.

It's good to hear back from you.   I am a bit concerned that the dates don't quite add up in that Sophia was apparently baptised two years before her parents' marriage!   As far as I can see the info only comes from a transcription so it might be wrong.   Maybe you know more?
