Lagden - Saffron Walden to Canada
« on: Sunday 21 March 04 01:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
I am working on the Lagden line tonight, ALL for Saffron Walden, in Essex. I discovered as part of this that a few brothers appear to end up in Ontario, Canada. This is an educated guess, as my Ancestry subscription shows an entry for the three of them in Canada, in 1891; and no entry in the England 1891 census.
I will be posting all of my tree to my site shortly, but are there any Lagden family for Canada out there, or a few clues. I think Ancestry are doing a brilliant job, BUT I have spent too much on census CDs for the time being to not warrant extra expense.
Just a reminder, if you did not know, I am doing a one-name study on the Lagden family, as I find new info. All info posted to my site.
Thanks
Kevan

A quick update, for more info. the three brothers are Charles, alfred and George. Their mother is Ennef Lagden (nee Frost or Front). She married a Charles Lagden in 1848, and he died in 1860. She was a minor when she married, and remarried in 1866 to either a Barker or a Herdson (probably).
She does not appear on the England 1891 census either, so maybe she emigrated too.
I have only been doing this part of the line today, but I do have some quite good resources for searching, and I do get it all sorted fairly quickly.
I think she was born in Wembo (near Safforn Walden, and Charles the father was born in Saffron Walden, though I have no other links to him at the moment.

Hi,
Just to update this, I had an email from Ruth in Canada to confirm much of this is true, and George & Ennef plus many of their family disappeared into the Canada after 1882.
   Thanks Ruth.

This is all viewable in my online tree at

Hi,
Silly me : see http://essex1841.com/Legacy/1692.htm for example. I have not updated the site for ages, and I know there are errors in the tree along the way, but hey ho.
best
