TASMANIA Death Look Up If possible please
« on: Tuesday 25 September 07 12:15 BST (UK) »
there doesn't seem to be a searchable index as with the NSW BMD.

I am trying to find a death for an

ADA LORING

She had a daughter Caroline Matilda Loring on 2 July 1897 born Hobart Tasmania.

I am wondering whether anyone has any CD's etc that may have this info on it.

Thanks

thanks Ozybob.  I don't have Ada's birth certificate yet but she is down on records as being Ada A Loring (maiden name Mercer). She was born in 1872 so probably this death is not her but likely to be related as Alfred her husband had a few brothers as did his father.

Caroline is the only child I have found for Alfred and Ada so I am wondering if she died in childbirth or died young. They married in Sydney but their daughter was born in Hobart and then Alfred died in Sydney in 1936.  There is no record for Ada's death on the NSW BMD site that's why I wondered if she had died in Tasmania

Hi,
There are a number of Loring burials on this site.

You may possibly recognize some names to give you a clue.
There is a Caroline, but she is too old.
 Could be related.

Thank you very much for this link.  The Caroline Loring died 1913 aged 82 makes her born 1831 - she will be Alfred's mother married in 1858 in Hobart.  I'll have a good look through this list, no Ada but may be the Ada A we have for her is not correct.
Thanks again

Hi Sue

just to let you know that there is no sign of her in Victoria 1889- 1920, nor in the deaths for Victoria 1920-1985.  (The other one in Tasmania,  Ada Thompson Mercer, went to Victoria with her husband)

Have you looked for a remarriage for her after 1936? it is suprising how many remarry when elderly.  Have you checked the grave where her husband is buried, in case she is there with him?

Christine  :)

Hi again Sue

I had a look at the NSW deaths, have you proven that this is not your lass? given that Ada gave Matilda as one of her daughters names - and Caroline is her mother-in-law's name, so it is possible that her mother's name could be Matilda.

A badly written H can look like an A.

13142/1947
LORING  ADA HARRIETT
father: JOHN  mother: MATILDA AMELIA
MANLY

and just to add weight to that theory - there are these deaths too.
1146/1864  MERCER  MARY  JOHN  MATILDA  SYDNEY
1884/1867  MERCER  WILLIAM T  JOHN  MATILDA  SYDNEY
17618/1929  MERCER  JOHN R  - JOHN  MATILDA  RYDE
8502/1942  MERCER  ALFRED THOMAS  - JOHN  MATILDA  CHATSWOOD
13943/1960  MERCER  WALTER GEORGE  JOHN  MATILDA  BURWOOD
this marriage
133/1862  MERCER  JOHN  - CRAINE  MATILDA  SYDNEY

Alfred Thomas' birth is registered in NSW, but John R's is not, and there is a gap in the births where Ada could fit, if they did not register her.  Matilda's name is shown  as Matilda Louise, an again as Louise Matilda, but is the only John/Matilda combination during this time in NSW.

cheers
Christine  :)

Thanks for the info Christine.  No I hadn't thought of a remarriage for Ada.  Her father was Henry and her mother was Ellen (or Amelia as she sometimes was called). Henry her father had remarried in Sydney in 1885 and came to NZ in 1896 but I have not been able to find out what happened to her mother.  There is no death for her in NSW or NZ and now I am looking in to remarriage for her.

Thanks again for your info.

Sue
