Family Records Centre question

If you know the GRO numbers you need, can you just turn up at the FRC and get the cpoies you require, or do they take the info and post the certificates to you?

I think the answer to your question is that you have to order the certificate, and can have it posted to you or you can go back and collect it. see http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/research/bmdmain.htm

It not like on 'Who Do You Think You Are' when the certificates are there ready and waiting before you even thought about it!

If you know the full reference why not order direct online from the GRO   http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You have to fill in a form and pay and then they send them or you can collect them as Jen said.  The FRC is closing soon and everything is moving to Kew.   You can always order certificates from the local office - they do not need the GRO reference just details of name and date.  They will also often check parents' names etc free for you and will not charge if it turns out to be the wrong one.  The GRO is easy though - just sit at the computer and type!

Thanks, in that case its probably easier to use the on-lin order than the 30 min trip to teh FRC!

"Last orders" at FRC are on 25th October.

If you take a look at this news page http://www.ffhs.org.uk/news/news071004.php you'll see that unfortunately not "everything is moving to Kew". The book indexes aren't moving to Kew, the counter service (where you can personally apply for a BMD certificate or pick one up) is not moving to Kew etc.
