Wells of Stockton
« on: Saturday 29 September 07 20:57 BST (UK) »
Looking for a date of death for my Gt Gt Grandparents Donald Galbraith Wells and wife Mary Ann Wells (nee Wade). They married in St James but as this Church apparently does not have a grave-yard, i cant locate their deaths.
The last information is 1906 when they are living in Gray Street, Stockton. Their son John William Wells married Sarah Ann Cockroft.

Any help appreciated.
Regards,
CB.

Hi

You could have a look on here

www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk

it is free to search and if you think you may have found them, you can email and ask them to check a name of informant etc before you purchase, good luck

The only problem with those indexes, if you look at the coverage Stockton has no deaths listed between 1837 and 1995!!  >:(

I concentrated on Donald (he has an easier to spot name  ;))  and found

Donald G Wells died Mar Q 1945 aged 85
Durham S E 10a 100

(the 1901 census has Mrs Wells down as Mary E not Mary A)

Thanks Jane i had tried that link, but it is fairly limited. But will keep in mind about emailing them.

Madpants, you have found Donald where did you find the information and was Mary Elizabeth with him ?
Also do you know where they would have been buried?

P.S.  I have an Ernest Jeffels b 1910ish, who married Donald's Granddaughter Amy Wells. Any relation.

Thank you very much for your help, and information.

Hi
I am not sure where you have been looking for deaths.   The full GRO index is online on a couple of paying sites so you can trawl through that and there is also FreeBMD.  The coverage on that is getting better every day so it is worth looking there first.

Hi CB

I found Donald by trawling through the BMD indexes on Ancestry, to find Mary E would be a case of starting again at 1906.  If you get the death cert for Donald it would give his address and date of death so you could contact the nearest cemetary to see if he's there, maybe with Mary.

Jane taught me this, we had a lovely day on saturday wandering round cemetaries  ;D

Thank you both.
I will give Stockton Council a call they should be able to list the cemeterys used for burials from St James.
