Osborne sisters Canterbury
« on: Monday 01 October 07 10:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find more info on Elizabeth and Clara Osborne, sisters who lived at 8 Alexandra Terrace, Station Road Canterbury in 1901.
They kept a shop somewhere near the Cathedral selling tourist souvenirs, but I don't have an address for the shop.
If anyone has access to street / trade directories for the period I would like to know how long before and after 1901 were they residents at Alexandra Terrace and if possible the same information for their shop if found.
I live some distance from Canterbury so can't check the Library myself, any help would be much appreciated.     John

Hi John

There is a 1917/1918 street directory for Canterbury http://www.historicaldirectories.org and the Misses E & C Osborne were listed at 8 Alexander Terrace, Station Road East, Canterbury.

Ther are a number of Kent trade directories on the above mentioned site in which the shop might appear and also a couple on the Here's History Kent site http://www.hereshistorykent.org.uk/

Have you tried contacting the library?  Often they will do a lookup like this for no charge if it doesn't take too long.

Casalguidi :)

Hi Casalguidi,
Thanks for those links, the directories available there show me that the sisters were at Alexandra palace at least from 1901 to 1917 now I need to check outside of those years, I did not manage to fond a shop address though.
I have contacted the library yet as my search area was rather wide.
