1851 Middlesex - John and Adam Blackburn
« on: Tuesday 21 December 04 17:22 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for John Blackburn, father of Adam Blackburn.  Adam is shown on the 1871 and subsequent census records as born in Middlesex c1845.

Don't know John's age or place of birth, alas.

If anyone can find this family I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks

Thank you Bryant.  It doesn't look as though this is the family.  Since my earlier posting I've noted that John Blackburn was a stone mason (in 1869), though it's not known if he had that occupation in 1851.

Appreciate your endeavours.

By the by, I note your Powell interest.  My hubby is a Powell, from Dudley - Quarry Bank/Pensnett area - does that area come under your interest?

Kind regards

The way you write suggests you have given up on him! don't give up, he can be found by someone with the right tools at their disposal!

Your Adam (son of John) is the TAX collector (collector of rates) from Lancs in 1871, that is correct isn't it?
John his father is definitely in London, Middx around 1845 as that is where Adam is born.
John is a Stonemason (not a trade you pick up overnight) you don't mention his age! or who he is married to? or where he was when he is declared as being a Stonemason in 1869?

Some Nice people out there have 1851/1861 census name indices and might be able to assist?

NEW lookup required
1851 census NAME INDEX..looking for John Blackburn..a Stonemason in London, Middx

Regards
Bryant

ps.
my Powell's are from the Coleford, Forest of Dean territory, Gloucestershire, they were mostly Coal Miners with the odd Iron & Stone/Slate Quarryman in their somewhere!

Thanks once more Bryant.  Yes, the Adam you found is John's son.  We only know of John and his profession from Adam's marriage cert in 1869, so his age, place of birth and wife are unknown.  We know that Adam flitted around a bit in Lancs after 1869 as he's found in different locations on subsequent censuses, but no trace of dad John in the same areas.

It is a bit of a shot in the dark I'm afraid because John Blackburn is such a common name (eg: we tried entering his name with 'occupation' on the 1881 and got 3000 hits), so I was hoping that finding him on the 1851 census would be the key to learning his age/wife/birthplace and we could work on that.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for some help from our fellow Rootschatters!

Kind regards

New tactics required to find Adam's father John Blackburn the Stonemason!

Who did Adam marry in 1869...Anne  ?????, and where did they marry? and what was Adams declared age ? and Anne's? and who was Anne's father and what was his profession?

Important....who were the Witnesses to the marriage?
