Census Look up Phyllis Jones Abercairne
« on: Wednesday 03 October 07 13:27 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for some research into my Grandnothers ancestry.  Her name was Phyllis Jones.  All I know is:

1933 - Married Heorge Herbert Williams in Bromley, Kent. at the age of 21.
In 1933 she lived at 12 Station Parade West Wickham.
Her father is recorded as Spencer Jones Tin Worker.
I am told she was born in Abercairne c. 1911/12 and had 13 brothers / sisters
Her ancestry is thought to be part Welsh and Irish.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The marriaged was witnessed by relatives from my Grandfather's side.  By word of mouth I believe some of her siblings were:

Queenie, May, Spencer, Jack ....

I'm not sure of the veracity of these names so didn't mention them in the first post.

Hi David

Do you mean Abercarne?  I can't find an Abercairne

Quote
"ABERCARNE, a town in the parish of Mynyddyslwyn, lower division of Wentlooge hundred, in the county of Monmouth, 7 miles N.W. of Newport. It is situated on the river Ebwy and on the Crumlin canal. The Abercarne station on the Western Valleys' railway, is at the confluence of the Gwydden with the Ebwy, near Abergwydden."

There is a marriage of an Alfred Spencer JONES to a Sarah SULLIVAN in 1900 - does that sound at all likely?

Too many Phyllises to shake a stick at...!!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Brilliant - so I wonder where the Irish connection is.  Any chance of following the mother and father lines back though the census'?

I am very grateful

Am I being thick.

If Phyllis Jones' mother was surname Lee - does that mean she was born out of wedlock and or that Lee was the maiden name?

Phyllis was born c. 1912 and from the previous postings her mother is probably Mary Ann Jones, with the additional information that she is iving in the same house as a Lee familly in 1891, we might infer that these are her relatives / siblings.

Or am I off piste?

No, You are right David.

Indexing of births after September quarter 1912** included the mother's maiden name, but Phyllis was born a JONES.

It does look as though the LEE family is related, but buying the marriage cert would give you the father's name and occupation, which should confirm it.

Well done, guys!

 :D

** I might have that wrong, judging from the post above - maybe it was Sep 1911?
