Can anyone please tell me the name of the civil parish for Carrington, Nottingham? Or where to look in the 1901 census?
Thanks

Hi Roobarb,

Carrington is in Nottingham civil parish, Basford registration district.  It is north east of the city centre.

Hope this helps.

Hi Roobarb

I would say it is north west of the city centre, but it is is really just north. It is just north of the famous Goose Fair that took place last week end. St Johns, Carrington, is the church.

It is 2 miles from the centre of Nottingham, probably directly North along Mansfield Road. In order it is Nottingham, Hyson Green (or Forest Fields), Carrington, then Sherwood. It may just come under St Andrews, Nottingham which is on the junction of Forest Road and Mansfield Road.

Who are you looking for? This may be easier to find. The trouble is NFHS BMDs are very thin in 1901.

Thanks Jane, I'm being a bit mysterious about this because someone who wishes to remain anonymous (not me!) has just moved there. When I visited I asked when the house was built and was told turn of the century. I wanted to find it on the census to get some idea of the property at that time, what trade the people were in who lived there, and the surrounding area. I've since managed to find it on the census, the district varied between the 1901 and 1891 censuses. Many thanks for your help  :)
PS Have been to the Goose Fair several times, very enjoyable!  :D

Hi Roobarb

I have only recently answered another request for 415 Mansfield Road on the look up board. This is in Carrrington too and I went and took photos for them. If you have personal specifics PM me.

Hello!
I live at 415 Mansfield Road!

My grandmother bought the house in the 1950s I think for around £7000.  A bargain by todays prices.

I assume she must have converted into the two flats that it is currently as I own a copy of the original Fothergill plans and see it was actually one large home.

My mum inherited the property when my grandmother passed away and I have lived here renovating my part of the house for the last 12 years.

I do have plans to convert the property back into one large family home in the future.

It is amazing to think that it was once the Manse.  Do you know exactly when it stopped being used for such a purpose and of any other tenants in the house?

I find the posts on this site fascinating and wish everyone luck discovering the histories they seek.
Carrington,Nottingham.

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat!

How amazing that you have such an interesting coincidence living in a house that someone else has been researching, I hope that someone can help you join the dots in your story too, and  good luck in your restoration on the old home!

Best wishes,
