Could anyone help me or advise me? i am looking for information on  James Hornigold / Hornegold / Hornagold or various other spellings?

He was born in Norwich, Norfolk England in abt 1814 he was discharged from the Army in England through an injury to the groin in 1833. I cannot find him in the 1841 or 1851 census here in England? He then turns up in 1861 living in Hampshire England as a Sergeant in the police Force with his wife Ann born 1829 Wonston Hampshire and children Mary Ann born 1853 GALWAY IRELAND, James born 1856 Whitchurch, Hampshire & elizabeth born 1858 Whitchurch, Hampshire.
By 1881 he is still in Hampshire but now a superintendant.

Can anyone tell me is there any records i could search to locate my James in Galway at the time of his daughters birth or in fact anytime between 1838-1861.

I would appreciate any information on how i could search for him. I will just add his brothers  Buskell iborn 1806, Edmund born 1812 are also missing at this time? i wondered whether they could all be together in Ireland??

Hello Jackie,

I looked for Hornigold, Hornegold and Hornagold in the extracts of Griffiths Valuation which took place in Galway in 1855. These names do not appear on the list. It's possible he was living with Ann's family whilst in Ireland which would mean he'd not appear in the Valuation. I've just noticed that his brothers may also have been in Ireland. That's a bit of a poser.

You could try getting his Police records from the National Archives. With an unusual name like that they might not be too hard to find.
