BMD & 1901 Census records for Clones & Belfast- COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 09 October 07 18:23 BST (UK) »
Hello all

Does anyone know where the BMD & census records for Clones or Belfast are held and how one can search them without actually going there?

I understand my family - McGuinness - were from Clones and lived in Belfast during and after WW2 but I have no dates for any of the family BMD events, only a hunch when they might have been, which makes things difficult.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

You can order microfilm of 1901 census to use at your local LDS library. 1901 Irish census is supposed to be coming online later this year in various stages starting with Dublin. Sounds as though you want 1901 for Clones area but there might be more than one microfilm for the area (check on LDS catalogue at www.familysearch.org).
To order birth, marriage and death certificates you will probably need to have a fairly good idea of names and dates.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

That's helpful, thanks.  Will have to keep my eye on the on-line project.

1901 Irish census is supposed to be coming online later this year in various stages starting with Dublin.

An article, by Dr Ian Maxwell, in the November issue of Ancestors states that the census records for Dublin and county are due for release shortly amd the other places will be staggered over the next couple of years. If you're researching Irish ancestors you should try to obtain a copy of the magazine as it contains a couple of excellent articles relating to Irish research.
