BMD & census records for Clones or Belfast
« on: Tuesday 09 October 07 18:26 BST (UK) »
Hello all

Does anyone know where the BMD & census records for Clones or Belfast are held and how one can search them without actually going there?

I understand my family - McGuinness - were from Clones and lived in Belfast during and after WW2 but I have no dates for any of the family BMD events, only a hunch when they might have been, which makes things difficult.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Pre 1922 Ireland was all one county and BMD records were centralised. After that date reords for Belfast are in Northern Ireland and those for Co. Monaghan in the South.
The civil records (births, marriages, deaths) are not available on the Internet as English (and Welsh and Scottish) records are but some are on LDS site, especially many (but not all) Irish births 1864-c1882.
If you think the family might have signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912 you can search of them here and might get an address or townland:
http://applications.proni.gov.uk/UlsterCovenant/Search.aspx
They might be listed in various directories, especially while living in Belfast.
Here's 1910 for Clones:

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
