WATSON - Dichington - Norfolk
« on: Thursday 11 October 07 07:21 BST (UK) »
I have an Elizabeth Watson born in Ditchington, Norfolk on 13 December 1840. Her parents names were John and Maria Watson. Is this enough information for some one to look at the 1841 census for me and see if they are there.
Many Thanks

1841 HO107/779/book8/14/21.
if you do not have access to ancestry then i will happily post the full entry.
she was living in ditchingham but it looks like her parents were john-hannah. although it does 'nt actually tell relationships in 1841 only gender.

No I don't have access.........but where on earth did Hannah come from I wonder?   They arrived here in Australia at port Adelaide in 1856 and it was John Watson and Maria with daughter Elizabeth, there were more born after the 1841 census and I am now looking for those, but Hannah?

Its Harriett, not Hannah.

Harriett - 38 - born Norwich, Norfolk
Sarah - 16 - born Mettingham
Harriett - 13 - born Mettingham

Thank you.......... but it doesn't make sense, when they came here they came with children Elizabeth (16), Gilbert, John and Jane.  Gotta go back to my notes and reread I think. Thanks for your time.

PS......do you know of a site that shows maps of England so I can get my bearings?

also my John Watson - father of Elizabeth was 41 when he arrived here in 1856

Well I am confused, where did you get Ditchingham from?

Found the following family in 1851.

WATSON
John - 39 - brickmaker - born Gedney, Lincolnshire
Maria - 40 - born Moulton, Lincs.
Mary - 16 - born Gedney
Elizabeth - 11 - born Fleet, Lincs.
Gilbert - 8 - born Fleet
Jane - 3 - born Fleet
John - 6 months - born Gedney

Gedney Dyke
HO107/2097 - Gedney, Lincolnshire
Folio 391, Page 18

No extra children in 1841. Do you think this might be the family you are looking for?

To be honest I no longer have a clue as to whether they are mine or not. Thanks for your help anyway

Well first of all, where did you get that Elizabeth came from Ditchingham. Was this from her death cert, as I believe that Australian ones are more informative than English ones.
If this is the case, then the first family is probably yours and have found the wrong family in the immigration records.
Might this be the case?

Do you have Elizabeths marriage cert, which might list fathers occupation. Blacksmith and Brickmaker are a bit more precise than the usual agricultural labourer.
