Where is Mochan??

My ancestor, Hannah Huzzey, stated on the 1861 census for England that her place of birth was "Mochan, Wales".

Does anyone know if such a place exists in Wales or could it be mistake on the transcription?

I've not heard of it. The census (indexed under Hussey) certainly looks like Mochan. I'll have a look at the 1851 to see if it gives more info.

There is a Machen, near Caerphilly

The 1851 states Glamorgan,  Wales, so I think it could be Machen* but that's in Monmouthshire 

It might be Margam which is in Glamorgan.

Not sure if this is any help. I noticed that Hannah's husband was Thomas on the 1851. There is a marriage on the IGI (patron submission though so needs checking) 21 Feb 1818, Llangyfelach, Glamorgan between a Thomas Huzzy and a Hannah Gower

Llangyfelach  is not really all that close to either Machen or Margam

I used multimap earlier to try and work out which was the best place vis a vis Llangyfelach.

Main problem is that there are no birth records for any of the places that far back 

I'm really in 'foreign' territory down there. Now if it was North Wales
