Orkney to York Factory on Hudsons Bay.
« on: Thursday 11 October 07 20:55 BST (UK) »
Are there any records of ship names and passenger lists for ships/people that left Orkney Islands to York Factory (Hudson's Bay Post) on Hudsons Bay, Ontario, Canada.?

I am trying to find a passenger, John Sabiston, who would have made the trip in 1860 at 17 years of age.

Any help appreciated,  Spanish Eyes

I haven't found passenger lists yet, but here are some books that mention the "Sabiston" surname.

Hi Janice

The passenger list you have posted is for Victoria, B.C., he is another John Sabiston. The one I am looking for landed at York Factory on Hudson's Bay in Ontario and then took a York Boat to the Red River Settlement in Manitoba.

Thanks anyway, I appreciate the help. I will check out the other sites and see if any are mine.

Hi Janice

Kind of off my subject but I notice you have a Thomson in your line. On my mothers side we have Thompson's and Thomson's.
The name seemed elective, in 1861 and 1871 Ontario census the name was spelled without a "P" and in B.C. it was spelled with a "P".
The family that lived on Vancouver Island, B.C., one of the brothers, had a large family spelled Thomson, the rest of the family on the mainland used Thompson.
Ernest Evan Seton Thompson a well-known artist and author, was related to my mothers side of the family and was most known as Ernest Evan Thompson Seton and his great grandfather was George Seton, 5th. and last Earl of Winton.

Is this any relation to yours?
