Greenwich 1871 census lookup EDWARDS
« on: Thursday 23 December 04 16:07 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please look for the following on the 1871 census for me please in the hope of trying to solve my dilema of where  Charles was born.

Charles Henry Edwards born abt 1852 occupation Mariner father Eliha Edwards occupation Mariner. This information was from his marriage certificate. Although Charles death certificate in 1909 states his father as also being Charles? In 1872 he was living in King Street, Greenwich.

Thank you & Merry Christmas
Glenda

Hi Glenda,
Was he living with his father in 1871? There are 1,179
men named Charles Edwards in London in 1871. Even if the father is Charles, it would cut down on the number of candidates among the 18-20 year olds.
If he was living with family, it would help a great deal
if we knew the names of his siblings and his mother.

By the way, I think the father's name was mistranscribed on the marriage cert. I don't think there is any such name as Eliha, but Elihu, one of those Old
Testament names, does appear, particularly among Dissenters.

If you can come up with a bit more information, I'll give it another go, (after Christmas ;D) but without knowing what I was looking for, beyond Charles with a father Charles or Elihu.. ::) I did try Elihu (both spellings), but no luck.

Merry Christmas :) :) :)
Carmela

King Street, Greenwich in 1871 should be piece rg10/756 folios 5 and 32-33.

That may help narrow it down a bit for you.
