Hi Lynne

The reason you are not finding Thomas's details on Scotlands People is that the IGI entry you have come across is a submitted entry by a member of LDS. There are a number of other potential siblings showing for Thomas, also submitted entries. Of these, only one is an actual extract from the OPRs and shows on Scotlands People:

CHRISTIAN PARKINSON  Christening: 02 JUN 1801 Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

The submitted entries are:

1. Ann Parkinson  Christening: 17 NOV 1799 Canongate, Midlothian, Scotland/ Marriage: 17 OCT 1826
2. Christian Parkinson Christening: 18 MAY 1807 Canongate, Midlothian, Scotland
3. JAMES DUFF PARKINSON Birth: 1811 Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland/ Death: 03 MAR 1868

Regards.

Monica

Hi Monica,on thomas parkinsons wedding certificate ,it says labourer in cannongate, married maria boygoyne 1829 underneath it has the objection, not sure what this means ,she was from ireland ,so really thomas could have been born anywhere and census could be wrong

Lynne

Whilst Thomas's entry is submitted on IGI, you also have a number of siblings for him that will help you in establishing his family. This together with his census entries up to 1871, if you have these, would give me confidence he was born where he said he was in his census returns. His death cert. which will be available to view on Scotlands People, will confirm parents names. His death entry by the way is down as PARKISON, without the N.

To help you understand what is available on the official records for Scotland, have a look at Pam's post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html which details what is recorded on BMDs and Old Parish Register entries and sources.

Hi Jane

I was curious about your reply--does your research include Parkinsons in Ireland, specifically, County Down?  Was particularly interested in period before 1820s.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Adrienne

Hi Adrienne,

This was an old thread that I found when trying to find others searching for Parkinson's.

Lynne j was searching for my 3rd Great Grandfather and I wondered if she still needed any info, or had any on my 4th Great Grandfather.

As far as I know my Parkinsons came from Edinburgh, the earliest I have is John Parkinson born abt 1773 he was a Soldier in the Marines according to his marriage OPR entry to Ann Duff. Though I do not have any info on his parents or birth...he may even have been an Englishman  ;).

His son Thomas married an Irish Girl, Marie Burgoyne/Mary Brogan, depending on which birth, death or marriage info you are looking at.

Do any of these ring a bell with you?

Yours Jane
