Etaples Florence V Grover
« on: Wednesday 17 October 07 15:15 BST (UK) »
Hello

Last year I was able to visit my Great Uncle's grave and that of a fellow rootschatter's relative when in France and was able to photograph them, it was a very moving experience.

When looking round I came across the grave on the attached photo and thought that I would post it on here as it seemed unusual, perhaps she "belongs" to someone on here or if not I wonder if one of the WW1 experts might know why she would be there, perhaps she was a nurse or something like that?

I would love to find out more about her if anyone could help, she's not one of my names but it would be great to find out.

thanks
Wendy

She was a civilian, and had travelled to France to visit her wounded husband, Albert Grover. Soon after arriving she was taken ill with influenza and died two days later.  Her husband later caught influenza as well, and died on 17th December 1918 - he is also buried at Etaples.

Hello Sue

Thank you so much for that, I feel so sad for her, I didn't know that they did that, how really terrible at the end of the war.

I will think of  them on 11 November.
