Where does your info on the marraige come from?

What is first child's name - where does info on that come from, do you have a christening.

There are several Bettle entries on the IGI for Bedord area. Including christenings of children of a James Bettle and Charlotte MAnyweather (submitted enties only)

Hve you got Thomas and Charlotte on later censuses?

If she was born 1808 it is unlikely she married in 1823, would be only 15.

their children were Juliana 1823; susannah 1827; thomas 1830; elizabeth 1830/7; emma 1843; charlotte 1845; frederick 1847

If you got a birth cert for one of the children born after 1837, it will give the mother's maiden name.

e.g (from FreeBMD)
Frederick Bettle
Jan/Feb/Mar 1847
Newport Pagnell reg distr
ref 6 428

go http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
to order a cert online

one step at a time !!

Two thoughts on this one;

First I am wondering if Charlotte was a second wife to Thomas, as there is quite a gap in th children and she would have been so young to be mother to Juliana. no evidence as such, just a thought.

Secondly, out of interest, there are marriages for some of the children on FreeBMD if you have not already found tham (I am sure you have)

Ap/May/Jun 1845
Juliana Selby Bettle
Newport Pagnell

Apr/May/JUn 1854
Thomas Selby Bettle
Daventry
(this scould be the son,or Thomas senior if charlotte died pre 1854 - though you have them on 1861, so must be son)

Oct/Nov/Dec 1850
Margaret Selby Bettle
Newport pagnell
(not on your list above, but looks like another child!)

Ap/MAy/JUn 1861
Elizabeth Selby Bettle
Newport pagnell

A/M/J 1862
Emma Selby Bettle
N'port P'nell

also a Frederick S-B, a Jonathan S-B and a William S-b married elsewhere (other than NP)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Wow - there are actually a whole load od S-B's?

Go on to the freeBMD on ancestry, for example and just enter Selby under Christian name and Bettle under surname, for each of ,B, M and D in turn.

Whole clan of them!

quite a task to piece them all together!
Have fun
