Can anyone read the last word on the occupation of John Silvester on the 1891 census in Warton (the Fylde one), Lancashire?  RG12/3450; Folio 24; Page 12

dunno !  but in 1881 he was a 'Commission Agent out of employ'

RG11/4250; Folio: 30; Page: 15

Mum in law (Wildgoose - excellent name) was a retired Boarding house keeper ....

keep working back and might find his actual occupation !

not sure Tatsper - the first letter is an S isnt it - identical to the one in 'Silvester' ?

Have a look at the T in Thomas a little further down the page - don't you think it's the same?  :-\

I agree its most likely to be Commercial Traveller, but the 'shape' of the whole word doesnt look right either    :P

could be Tilvester then - and Shomas    :D

Can't really argue with that ;D I reckon he reached out for an 'R' and changed it to 'V'. Plus he forgot the 2nd 'L'  :P

Thanks.  Traveller was the only thing that I could think of that came after commercial, but I could get the various squiggles to fit.  But they don't fit any other word either, so I think I'll go with that.

I couldn't decide between Wildgoose and Wildforce and was going to try both to see what came up for m-i-l.
