Gillingham Marriage

Hi I have found a record of marriage Medway Marriage Index by groom.
Hubbard Hicks  Oct 1810 Gillingham.

I think these are my ancestors,

RICHARD HUBBARD c1787 Ann Hicks c1787.

I have searched for birth record for Ann Hicks and found this,

Christening 10/02/1788 Gillingham Dorset

Father James Hicks   Mother Sarah

The first child of my Richard and Ann Hubbard was named James and they had a daughter Sarah.

I thought the marriage record was for Gillingham Kent ? could it be Gillingham Dorset ?

I believe the couple married St Mary Magdalene Church.

Your couple did marry in St. Mary Magdalene, Gilingham, Kent. You can see the entry in the Parish Register here:

Unless you have found them in the census and Ann gives her birth place as Dorset, I would be wary of the baptism you have found.

I can only find couple 1841 census  Upchurch

HO107/476 ED31 Folio 5 Page3

It states born is this county.

? Does this mean Kent not Dorset.

Ann Died in 1847 so would not be able to find anymore information.

I did find another record of ? birth ? Christening.

Ann Hicks   29/12/1791 St Mary Sandwich Kent.

Father John Hicks     Mother Ann

Is this closer to Gillingham Kent.

Yes, I think you need to concentrate on Kent.  I have looked at the census image and see Ann was older then Richard, it looks as if she was born between 1886 and 1891, so I think you need to look for her around those date

Why are they so inconsiderate as to die before the 1851 census

I have a copy of her death certificate 1847 she was age 60

Born approx 1791.

I had a look at Sandwich Kent , looks like a lovely place and it is by shipping port. All my Hubbard`s were bargees from Kent so could be a link.

Wasn`t she age 50 in 1841

Yes, but don't forget that ages for people over 15 were rounded down in the 1841 census. If as you say she was 60 when she died in 1847, that would place her birth about 1787.

Jennifer it would be 1787 so that birth? Christening ? record Sandwich is close 1791.
