Clayton with Frickley - Baptisms
« on: Wednesday 24 October 07 19:26 BST (UK) »
I wondered if anyone held the parish registeres for Clayton with Frickley to cover baptisms around 1800.

I believe my ancestor, William Harrison was born there between 1798 and 1802 (depending upon which census return I look at).

I believe his parents may have been William Harrison b 24 Nov 1776 and Alice Thompson who were married in Clayton with Frickley on 02 Jan 1797, looking at the IGI, but don't have a definite link.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello Helen,

If you search the IGI for Clayton with Frickley, surname Harrison, parents William and Alice, it comes up with the following baptisms:

Edward Harrisen, born 4 Jan 1800, bap. 2 Feb 1800
George Harrison, born 18 Dec 1802, bap 9 Jan 1803
Mary Harrison, born 16 Mar 1805, bap 14 Apr 1805
Hannah Harrison, born 9 Jun 1807, bap 28 Jun 1807
William Harrison, born 25 Mar 1809, bap 16 Apr 1809
Robert Harrison, born 9 Jun 1810, bap 1 Jul 1810

(All extracted records - Batch no P007561)

It would look like either your William is not as old as he claims on the census, or you may need to look for different parents (or they moved away from this parish? ).

Other Williams listed for Clayton with Frickley are:

William Harrison bap 24 Nov 1776 father George
William Harrison bap 31 Jul 1796 parents Thomas & Martha

Hope this helps, let me know if I can help further,

Sally  :)

Hi Sally,

Thank you for your help.

I think if I stick with my dates of birth for William 1798 to 1802, then I have to discount the William born to Thomas and Alice in 1809.  This would then lead me to rule them out as the parents of my gg grandfather, as, although I have noticed the same christian name used for siblings, I have only come across this when the first child bearing the name died.

The other William born in 1796 looks more likely, if I'm sticking to Clayton with Frickley, which I think is most likely (the place name on the census returns was only Clayton, Yorkshire though, so it might even be Clayton Bradford).

William married in 1832 - five years too early for me to obtain the marriage certificate to have definite proof.  So if anyone reading this does hold copy parish registers on CD, and has the time to take a look, then this would be very much appreciated.  Or if you, Sally, or anyone else can think of another way around it - I would love to know.

Thanks again,

Helen.
