Hi to all,
Could anybody possibly help me with a look up if you visit PRONI?
after searching and being stung on many web sites and pay per veiw sites it is working out very expensive!!!
I telephoned Proni a few days ago only to be told that the certificate on my GG grand father would probably not be available as my GG grand father was born in 1865 in Belfast. his name was Andrew McCrea, his father was John McCrea, I cant find out what his mothers maiden name or first name was.
I have been told to try and locate him on school registers, or other records like this.
can anybody help me?

best wishes to all
John.

School records are not indexed so you have to know the name of the school before finding a particular person.
Any idea where the family lived? what church they belonged to?, etc.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I have no idea what school, only that my family were presbyterian, and on the 1911 Larne census Andrew was listed as being born in the city of Belfast.
I just cant get past this problem.

John.

Civil registration of births started 1864 but wasn't compulsary until 1870, therefore, many early births probably weren't registered.
To find baptismal records you need to know the name of the church (countless Presbyterian churches in Belfast)- same problem as school records.
Do you have marriage certificate for Andrew? Any chance he and/or his father had an unusual occupation that might be listed in directories?
