Coffeld from Co.Down
« on: Monday 29 October 07 21:22 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone have ever heard the name 'Coffeld'.

My Great-Grandfather Joseph Walker married Sarah Coffeld on 26th Aug 1861 in Newry Parish Church. Sarah's father had died by the time she married, he was called Peter Coffeld and was a stonemason. In the 1901 Census it gives Sarah as being born in Co. Down.

I can't seem to be able to find the name anywhere.
I put the name into Goggle but the only Coffeld's I could see were from American.

Any help would be really appreciated.
Brian.

If you put 'Coffeld' and 'Ireland' in LDS site there are lots of people with that surname in Ireland.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey, DixieDee and BallyaltikilliganG,

Thank you all very much for you help. I had tried the LDS site and though there are many variations, I couldn't find a Coffeld. I will have a look through these names and the Newry site.

Thanks again, best wishes,
Brian.
