My Grandparents date, please

We think these are my Grandparents and he fought in the Zulu War.  Can anyone help with a date and does the uniform tell us anything?
Regards, Abiam

This photograph shows a soldier of the 1st ww period. He was a career soldier as the length of service stripes just above the cuff on the left arm indicate. If you repost this on the armed forces board (or post a link to the photograph) someone on there, like scrimnet/atom/ neil etc, would be able to say how long he had been in the army to the point of this picture having been taken.
