Passport Applications around 1895
« on: Saturday 03 November 07 21:36 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for any information regarding Nicholas Mc Henry born March 1869 who travelled from Liverpool to US in 1895. Does any one know if he would have needed a passport for this trip, and if so  would this info be available anywhere?

Erin, a bit odd... and possibly irrelevant......

Ellis Island site has a Nicholas McHenry Age 26 (b. 1869)  on The Campania arriving Oct 19, 1895 from Livrpool.    But he is not shown at the page reference given, Page 7 line 178 .  Trolled the pages before and after and much of the entire manifest but did not find him.

Not finding him in 1900 census

1910 Census   New Castle, Delaware
Nichols McHenry   (Nicholas McHenry)  Head of House
Age 42   b. 1868 Ireland            Father: Ireland    Mother: Ireland
wife  Gutertrde F   34    b.   Pennsylvania      Mother of 4 children  4 living
Year of Immigration: 1872 (transcribed)   but lookes to be 1892 on actual
Nicholas and Gertrude employed as Steward and Stewardess @ a Club House

Others in the household who seem to be visitors or boarders ???   and seems to all be employed at the Club House

David McGrane 30
Davis William 21    says "niece" in transcription  but actual  "visitor" or "waiter" perhaps ???
George Davie 25
John Delaney 21
Frank Cooley 21
Frank Ameil 26
Patrncia 22

1920 Census
Philadelphia Ward 28, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Living on West Cumberland Streeet

Nicholas McHenry
Age: 52 years  (1868)   Ireland   Father: Ireland    Mother"Ireland
Marital Status: Married
Home owned: Own
Year of Immigration: 1890  transcribed  but to me, looks like 1892 on actual
Naturaliized:  1902
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Nicholas' Occupation:  Manager @ Restaurant

Gertrude McHenry 44   indicated as "daughter"  and married      this an error also
James McHenry 16
Joseph McHenry 15
Paul McHenry 14
Mary McHenry 12
John McHenry 9
Charles McHenry 6
Bernard McHenry 3
Mary McHenry 59     indicated as "sister" to Nicholas  b. in Ireland  w/ immigration date of 1890

You can search for Ellis Island passengers and 'missing' manifests at:
