Kim of Kirkcudbrightshire aka Kimm/Kym
« on: Sunday 04 November 07 07:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi

South West Scotland 18th century.

The Kim family of Corse Gate,  Kirkpatrick Durham, Kirkcudbrightshire (KCB) are distantly related (via the Shaw family).  The surname Kim is relatively rare in Scotland and is often corrupted as Kimm, Kym and Kirn in the census entries.  Unfortunately the surname Kim is quite oriental so trying to find scottish Kim families is difficult.

I believe a blacksmith by the surname of Kim from the KCB area forged the cannon Meg Mollance which is now housed in Edinburgh Castle.

Anyone also interested in the surname from Scotland please let me know.
