Mountjoy Prison Dublin

I have just found out that one of my ancestors was imprisoned in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin for his part in  the 1916 irish Uprising. Is there a way of searching the prison records

You could try searching for his name or town where he came from on http://irishnewspaperarchives.com/
You may be suprised what you come up with. 

I found one relative on that site, in 1926, who was involved with a double murder along with his future brother in law and also they found an arms dump in the family garden as well as a balaclava and handgun in a shed  (it's the quiet one's you don't expect!) A little later on he was mentioned in the Dáil Éireann asking if he was still in prison and what offences he had been charged with.

I now know that my great-grandfather John Daniel, was in both Mountjoy prison and Kilmainham Jail!!!
