Adoption
« on: Monday 12 November 07 20:34 GMT (UK) »
Good Evening all, 1st post on here so be nice!, I started to trace my family and have come to a bit of a dead end. My Dad was adopted, i know the name of his biological mother and the date, place and reference of the adoption. I'm struggling with where to go from here, I'd love to know why he was adopted and if possible get access to the adoption file, but how? also, I have his mother's name and address at the time of adoption so could I trace her from that info or do i need more? Any help would be superb as I really need to know what happened. thanks in advance for your help and advice, rgds Annette :)

Hi Annette,

Welcome to RootsChat.

You will find an entry for Adoption in the RootsChat Lexicon on the Useful Links board.

or just go straight to this topic:

It sounds as if you have all the information you need but you may need to obtain legal advice, since you are not the adopted person and so do not have an automatic right to view the adoption files.

Good luck

Nell
