Hello banksie and welcome to Rootschat.

The best way to start is by posting what you know here and letting things take their course.

If you can, post a copy of the Medal Index Card, it will save you some typing and there are sometimes bits that can be picked out of it that you may not realise are there.

For advice on attaching photos etc to posts, take a look at this link:

Hi Banksie and welcome to rootschat and the armed forces board, along with the 1st ww medals William was also awarded the Silver War Badge. He would have worn this badge, which fitted on the lapel of the jacket, after he had been discharged from the army and would have been wearing civvies. By wearing this badge it showed members of the public  that he had been discharged through either wounds or sickness that he had recieved either at home or overseas.

Hi Banksie
Looks like he first deployed overseas with the MGC(Machine Gun Corps) and somewhere along the line transferred to the West Ridings Regiment.
As Rowley says he was discharged with a SWB.
