Where did Caroline Prince come from ?

I have a Gt.Gt.Grandmother, Caroline Prince, who married John Light in November 1830 in Hampshire, possibly Upham or Bishops Waltham, but I have hit the proverbial brick wall trying to find where she came from.   There are no details of her father on the certificate I have.  Unfortunately I seem to be having a senior moment and cannot think where to go next.  I am unable to get to a Record Centre at the moment.

Is there someone who could help, maybe where I could go next to find her origins please ?

In the census  Caroline gives here birth place as Wansted in Essex, there is nothing showing on family Search, so it looks like a search of the parish records.

Hi everyone, I've been having problems.   Thanks Debbie & Jebber,  I have the census for 1841 & 1851, but no hint of where Caroline comes from except Wanstead, so I suppose it means a long trawl to go back further, I'd like to find out who her parents were.

Hi Jollery,

Well, I'd say Wansted was a pretty good place to start trawling through Parish records if I were you.  As they married & were born pre registration in 1837, that's your only option...I think.

If you're not in that area, I'd start by Googling for Wansted i.e., online records, archives, anything at all that could help you.  The local studies centre or records office is your best bet of where to find the PR's.

I will take your advice,   and yes I have tried Family Search, and I found the marriage but no details of her parents, unless I am not searching properly, I am not very clever at this, but I couldnt see what else to do.   I went into family, but nothing there.

Hi Jollery,

You're right about familysearch & no further info, but it's given you a date & a place to work from.  If you make inquiries to Hampshire records office in Winchester, they may peek at the entry for you & give you any other details that MAY be there, such as her father's name.  I read on here that Hampshire records office is closed to the public until the spring, but they may take a quick peek for you if you ask nicely via letter or email.
I've emailed various records offices with a 'this is what I know, this is what I want'  usually brings a result.  Obviously, the staff won't go trawling through hundreds of records but if you have a date & place, (which you do) they'd be able to find it very quickly & are usually happy to forward info on.
I'm not very clever either,    but it's just a case of poking around & exploring all avenue's.
