some help please
« on: Monday 19 November 07 00:44 GMT (UK) »
Ive came to a stumbling block on my fathers side of the family have managed to get quite far back on his line but now doing a little deeper digging & have found out that My Great Granfathers bro was in WW1 according to my Granfather, all he remembers of James Stewart of Lanarkshire is that he came home severely ill due to shell-shock & James having an episode in the house while he visited his Grandparents. Heres the details I know.

James Stewart B abt 1893 parents being Duncan Stewart & Sarah King Robertson.

If anyone can help me find out what regiment he was in where he served during his deployment My Grandfather & I would be very grateful to you.
Have foned Edinburgh castle & spoke to Col Shepard there who has told me to try three regiments
1st Cameronians.
2nd Highland light Infantry.
3rd Royal Scots Fusiliers.

I now feel so confused about this man I don't know what direction to go in can anyone please have a wee look for me???????????????? ???

Hi Gills

It is hard to determine who your soldier is without you having a clue to his unit.  I put in HLI on the National Archives site  there were numerous men.  Also he might not have joined the regiment in his locality:

However, if he were recognised as being shell-shocked, he might well have received a pension.  Perhaps someone will check these men for you.  I don't have a subscription:

My Family tree is on familysearch .org under the ancestry finds looking up William Stewart as he is my Great Grandfather It is his older bro James & I apologize as I got his date wrong as you will see on this file The submitter has put everything in I've still to find James birth reg at Reg House Edin as I have most of the rest of his siblings and will be contacting the submitter to find out where on my Grandfathers line she belongs. If you check out familysearch .org & find out anything on any of the people I'd be most grateful to you all The other thing is if you have PAF for family search go under stewart family tree you will get the info I have placed on to our tree I also wonder if young George tried to join up Thanks again.
