Hello Iwan

If you give us the names of the parents we may be able to find Stanley in the 1891 and 1901 censuses which will help narrow down his place of birth.

There are several ways of going about this - have you traced (or asked for) then on the 1891 and/or 1901 censuses - you can try from the "known" parents to see if the child's full name is given (middle names are not always on the census) and whether the birth place ties in with these registration district. You could also try to match these "possibles" with their parents on the census. These methods may eliminate one or more possibles.
You can order certificates specifying a "checking point" - ie parents' names. The GRO make a charge for doing this if the answer is negative, but many local register offices do not (you have to contact the current office covering that registration district - usually by post with an SAE).

Many thanks for your swift reply!!

The parents are Stubbs Lambert and Esther Lambert. I know that Stubbs resided in W ham in 1881, where Stanley's sister Ethel was born.  In 1891, they all resided in Southport and then Salford by 1901.  Therefore you could assume that the first on my list is more possible as he was born in W Ham.  However! the third on my list married a Violet Black in Salford in 1906 and had a child there in 1908.  Stubbs died in Salford in 1908 and a V.Lambert appeared on the death certificate.

Hope that made sense!!

Hi Iwan,

I think what the previous posters were getting at is where did your Stanley stated as his birthplace in the census.

If I've got the right man he gave his birthplace as Elmdon Essex in both 1891 and 1901. Elmdon was at that time in Saffron Walden registration district and so your Stanley Harold in 1885 does seem to be the best bet.

Hi....don't mean to barge in...but I've found stanley with his family in 1891 in Lancashire (North Meols)

His birthplaceis given as Elmdon, Essex and he is 6 years old.

I did a Google and found that the registration district for Elmdon, Essex is Saffron Walden...... ;D

So, that's the one I would order...and also stipulate the parents.

Good Luck

Too late to bring the news but also snap!

One of the pproblems if you are using Ancestry is that Stubbs Lambert has been indexed as Strebbs.  The family were living at 49 Shakespeare St in 1891 and stubbs was a Stationer and Tobacconist.  You might find more information in a Lancashire Directory of that period.

Good luck
