Found a will on gov.uk.Wilts.Will - can I put on here?
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 12:47 GMT (UK) »
I have found a will on gov. wilts and wonder if there are copyright problems if I were to put it on here for help with comprehension.  It is openly available and I have been able to print it off so I don't think there should be a problem but prefer to ask first.
Any ideas?
Regards, Abiam

Hi Abiam

I've seen parts of wills on here before, so I think it is probably OK to put a bit on for help with the writing.

I am more interested in where you found the will.  What was the full name of the website?

I was looking for Wills in Fyfield Wilts.

This is the address:

http://history.wiltshire.gov.uk/heritage/wills_search.php?community_in=Fyfield
(not sure about the capital F in Fyfield but that's how it's written!)
If that doesn't work Google Fyfield Wilts and it's on the 2nd page  about 3 or 4 down.

Hope that helps.

Abiam,

Could you specify precisely which Will on that site (which works perfectly) you need help with?

And perhaps indicate which part(s) of the Will you are having trouble with.

Regards,

JAP

How about nearly all of it!!!  It is for Nicholas Dobson 1701 and I can see a wife Elizabeth,  daughters Hannah and Mary and a son John.  15 pounds each.   I was hoping to find if he left any property.  There are the names William Dickman (not sure abt the surname) and Thomas Marsh.  I can't see any address and I also think the 2nd page is in Latin.  Not my forte!

Anything might help,
Regards, Abiam

Hi All,

The Wiltshire site says as long as not used for commercial use, should be ok.

Here is an example of what the Latin part means,

Probatum fuit humor(?) testum apud London vicesimo sexto die mensis Aprilis Anno Dmi (Domini) Millimo (millensimo) sexcenmo(sescentesimo) octogemo (octogesimo) sexto coram venti (venerati) viro Thoma Pinsole Legum Dcore (Doctore) Surro doulis et equeqii viri Richardi Rames Dcores(?) Curia Prerogativa Cantuarensis Magri(?) custodis sive(?) comisarii prime(?) constituti juramento Elizabetha Sterry Relca dicti desurn (?) xr(etcetera) Executricis in dicto testamento nominat cui comissu fuit adudstraco omnium et singulorum bonorum jurium et creditorum dicti defuncti de bono xr fidelitor adudstrands eadem ad sancta dei Evangelia Jurat

This will was proved at London the twenty sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and eighty six before the Worshipful Thomas Pinsole Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Richard Rames Doctor of Laws Master Keeper Commisary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Elizabeth Sterry Relict and the sole executrix named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased she having been first sworn duly to administer on the holy Gospel of God.
