Uncompressing pictures.....
« on: Thursday 22 November 07 14:34 GMT (UK) »
...or should that be decompressing  ::) I have sent a document in jpg format to a friend having compressed it on Microsoft Office Picture Manager.  He can't open it in it's true size therefore it's unreadable.  I've had a look on the help section of picture manager but couldn't find anything.  Help please,

jane

Hi Jane

You can't uncompress jpg files once they have been compressed. JPG is what is known as a 'lossy' file format in which information is lost when it is compressed.

You could try sending the original again in uncompressed - or only slightly compressed - form.

If it's very large you could use a Zip program

Sorry

I don't know, Jane. Maybe you compressed it too much  :-\

I always use my separate graphics programs to compress/resize. I like to have as much control as possible over the images  :)

Try the Export option and jpg - large file. Give the file a new name and send it as an e-mail attachment as normal.

Alternatively, try using the large postcard option in the send e-mail.

I don't have a choice as to how much I compress it, it's automatic.  What do you mean by separate graphics programmes?  Maybe I've got something I can use...should I be resizing rather than compressing?

Hi Jane

I think we cross posted it. You could try Irfanview - a freeware graphics program. You can resize there.

I've given a few options with Office Picture Manager in my previous message. You have jpg options in Export

Thanks Gadget, I'm looking at the export option now.  I'll give it a whirl.  Thanks for your help,
