Will Probate in Monaghan ?COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 22 November 07 15:29 GMT (UK) »
I have found on www.emeraldancestors.com a record of a Will Probate for a Francis Flanigan died March 28, 1879 . The record states:

Record Type: Wills Calender
Will Probate: 1885
Name : Francis Flanigan
Date of Death: March 28 , 1879
County:Monaghan
Residence: Tassan
No age listed

But his grandson also Francis Flanigan was born in 1881 in Castleblayney, Monaghan and married in 1903 in Keady.

My Question is:
Where would I find a death certificate or record of death ?
Is there any site to see this Will or do I have to order it from some County  Office ? and if so , Who ?
I still am not able to find a birth registry for Francis Flanigan or a Marriage cert for him and supposedly his wife Margaret Daley ? Can anyone can help me , PLEASE ??

All Irish wills and their associated probate documents go to the National Archives of Ireland after twenty years have passed. Every year a will calendar is compiled that lists every will or Grant of Probate document that has been processed.

The Will Calendars still exist and give a small synopsis of the will or Grant. However, in 1922, the Public Records Office was destroyed in a massive explosion along with many, many original wills amongst other documents.

There is a birth registered in Castleblaney district for the following:
Name: Francis Flanagan
Registration district: Castleblayney
Registration date - quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1881

There are a few marriage records around 1903 for men called Francis Flanigan but there are over a hundred for women called Margaret Daley.

You can write to the GRO looking for more info. Their website is http://www.groireland.ie/ . They do not have an online ordering service. You can Google for "Irish Certificates" to find online agents who can do it for you.

This old post has already been marked completed so new information may not be needed but you can order certificates from GRO using the form on their website-
