Have ask the GRO for a copy of my great grandfather marriage cert quoting the number 2a 281 Q4 I have just received an e-mail saying they can't find it.  Where do I go from here.

Did you give them the year and registration district?  ???

Can you post the details just so we can check the reference?  :)

This has happened to me.

Check all the details. It's so easy to make a slip. does the name and the ref match?

Where does your ref come from? If it's Free BMD, there could be an error - check the actual images.

September 1888 Reigate 2a 281 seems correct to me, so why didn't they find it  ???

was the maiden name confirmed by a child's birth cert?

If the poster specified that banks married carey, and he didn't, then they will not issue it.
