I am looking for information about my gg grandfather. He was born in Ireland in 1844 and, I believe he emigrated in 1853. At this point I have been unable to ascertain where in Ireland he was from. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Where did he emigrate to? That's where I would start looking for clues. Census data, marriage details, church data, directories. Also look at where his neighbours came from as they often came from the same place.
