1861 Census Place Name Question?
« on: Monday 26 November 07 20:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I'm looking at the 1861 census for Farlam Parish - Class RG9/Piece 3908/ Folio 7/ Page 7

It gives the hamlet as being William Gill.

Does anyone know if this is an actual place or maybe the name of the land owner?

A useful map here http://www.geocities.com/waggonways/north-50/directory/brampton.html

Find the lake (Talkin Tarn)
move 3 squares to the right
then one square up. :)

This is so cool. Kirkhouse is mentioned on another census. Thank you so much. Now I can get an idea of where they lived and the surroundings.

Hi Ricky, isn't this a bit far north for you?

I didn't realise you could search www.streetmap.co.uk by OS Grid Ref -

NY5759 finds this map http://tinyurl.com/yo6hz3
