Aemstrong/Lam(b)
« on: Wednesday 28 November 07 10:06 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
Does anyone have any info at all on John Armstrong who wed Jean Lam(b) in Canonbie? I have no birth dates for them, but guess around the late 1670's, as I think they had a son, John, b22nd March 1703.
Many thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob

The IGI has them having a daughter, Jean,  bpt Canonbie 22 March 1703. John not listed. It could be the online records just have females. Maybe they had twins.

Have you checked Scotlands People?

Hello Bob,

Canonbie OPR shows two births attributed to John Armstrong and Jean Lamb.  The precise dates are not recorded but the year is 1698 for the birth of Arthur and 1670 for William.  There are no other births mentioned.

References supplied by me came from Canonbie OPR microfilm.  The date column in the early volumes are seriously stained and possibly slightly out of focus, although the originals clearly are interpretable.
I checked the twins, John and Jean, born in 1703.  This entry escaped full indexation by me by virtue of uncertainty about the mother's surname, but was entered elsewhere in my index.

I'm always amazed that such records have  lasted over 300 years and are still readable, given the various places where they must have been stored. We are very lucky to have them  :)
